Happy Memorial Day – Granny’s Sunken Apple Cake Recipe

memorial-day-872467_1920Looking for a last minute dessert for this weekend? This family recipe was handed down through generations. It is easy and fast to bake and instead of apples you can use dark Morello cherries.

Most kitchen scales can measure ingredients in grams and ounces. Usually there is a “unit” button or a switch on the bottom of the scale.

  • 100-125g butter
  • 125g sugar
  • 2-3 eggs, depending on size
  • 200g flour
  • 6g baking powder
  • 1-4 TBSP milk
  • 2-3 apples

Butter should be room temperature. Beat the butter with a hand held electric mixer until foamy. Add sugar in multiple portions while mixing. Add baking powder and flour, little by little and mix in between. Add milk if needed. Preheat the oven to 320 degree Fahrenheit. Use a non-stick silicone pan and fill it with the batter. Peel the apples and cut them into quarters. Cut multiple slits lengthwise into the apples  and place then onto the dough. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, depending on your oven. Let cool and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Enjoy!
